Epidemiology, "the study of what is upon the people," is derived from the Greek terms epi = upon, among; demos = people, district; logos = study, word, discourse.

Epidemiology is the study of factors affecting the health and illness of populations, and serves as the foundation and logic of evidence-based interventions made in the interest of public health and preventive medicine. It is considered a cornerstone methodology of public health research, and is highly regarded in clinical medicine for identifying risk factors for disease and determining optimal treatment approaches to clinical practice.

WE ARE INTEGRALLY INVOLVED IN LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND NATIONAL DISASTER PLANNING AND BIO-DEFENSE.

Infectious Diseases Physicians provides consultative hospital epidemiology support to Inova Health System. Additionally, we are integrally involved in local, regional, and national disaster planning and bio-defense. IDP provides occupational exposure evaluations and management for employees who sustain exposures to blood or body fluids as well as tuberculosis and other infectious agents during on-the-job activities. We have contracts covering all employees who work for Fairfax County, Arlington County, and Prince William County. The availability of these services is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While all physicians in IDP participate in these activities, Dr. Morrison holds a Master of Science degree in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control and provides primary support for these services.
